Termination of pregnancy

Gemeprost is a uterine stimulant used to soften and dilate the cervix prior to surgical termination; it may also be used following mifepristone in medical terminations.

Mifepristone for pregnancy termination must be administered in accordance with the Abortion Act 1967 as amended by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990 and should be taken in the presence of a doctor. Prescribing must be under consultant guidance
