Patent ductus arteriosus

Alprostadil is used to maintain patency of the ductus arteriosus in neonates with congenital heart defects prior to corrective surgery.

Ibuprofen is used to close a patent ductus arteriosus in premature neonates, probably by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
