Drug Safety Update
June 2015: Intrauterine contraception: uterine perforation—updated information on risk factors
The intra-uterine device (IUD) is a suitable contraceptive for women of all ages irrespective of parity; however it is less appropriate for those with an increased risk of pelvic inflammatory disease. The doctor or nurse administering or removing the system must be fully trained and provide full counselling including where available an information leaflet.
